The formation of condensation is a result of moisture in the air of the house being deposited on cold surfaces.
This is most commonly seen on windows; however, it will also affect walls, inside cupboards, clothes and shoes stored in wardrobes, and soft furnishings.
Prolonged condensation will allow mould spores to germinate leading to the characteristic black appearance on walls, quite often in corners or behind furniture. There can also be a ‘musty’ smell if the property is shut up and a damp feeling on sheets, chairs etc.
Alleviating condensation and the associated dampness and mould growth can be problematic.
Modern house construction or home improvements like double glazing, draught proofing and blocking up fireplaces can reduce ventilation in the building whilst normal everyday living, showers, cooking, and even breathing add moisture vapour to the atmosphere.
Generally, a balance of heating and ventilation will control condensation to a level where it is not a problem but, in many cases, this cannot be achieved naturally and assistance is required in the form of a ventilation system.
Positive Pressure units are a very good, long term solution to ventilation problems whist the installation of specially designed air bricks (Passyfier vents) can provide air movement in limited spaces.

The unit is sited in a central position, preferably in the central landing and draws in tempered air.
This air is tempered because of the effects of solar heat gain.
The air is filtered to deal with contaminants down to pollen size and is then discharged through a specially designed diffuser that takes advantage of the natural effects of rising warm air within the property.
The unit displaces and replaces air in the property with fresh clean tempered air and helps to keep condensation at bay, and providing central ventilation throughout the home.
